Early 2006, MDERA recruited three trainers, Kathi Starecki (Team Lead Training), Faye Osiowy (Training), and Elisia Teixeira (specializing in Template Development).

 

All three trainers have worked in the developmental phases of projects within the Calgary Health Region, the University of Calgary and private practice.

 

The team have gone through the required “Train-the-Trainer” course and evaluations led by Andy Kett, Operations Manager from EMIS.

 

EMIS TRAINING  REQUIREMENTS FOR MDERA TRAINERS

MDERA trainers are required to undergo an extensive 3-4 week EMIS Certification course prior to training end users.

· 3-4 week full time training course

· Additional training sessions twice a month

· Validation exercises for each module

 

EMIS TRAINING FOR THE END USERS

MDERA trainers offer small group classes and on one on support sessions to EMIS users. On-site support is available during the implementation period.  Training documents include:

· FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

· Tips and Tricks

· Training handouts and Cheat sheets.

Elisia Teixeira brings us experience with EMR implementation to the Rheumatology Division including use and management.   She will focus on template development to facilitate documentation of clinical information. Elisia’s experience as an instructional designer, web development and webmaster, and is a registered nurse with a Master of Science degree in Educational Technology (UofC).

Searches and Reports

For Clinicians/management to search, analyze and report on patient data and trends.  Also utilized to assist with patient care.

Admin Lists and Specialty Manager

To deal with the management of incoming referrals from receipt through to appointment

Word Configuration and Patient Documents

To create patient document templates (eg standard letters)

To create and save individual patient specific documents

Scanning and Attachments

To scan and attach incoming patient paperwork into the electronic record.

Billing

To bill the appropriate bodies for treatment provided

Phase 3

Dictionaries

For Clinicians to manage formularies and drug dosage, patient recall schedules, etc.

Template Designer

To create and maintain templates for clinician use.  Clinicians will use templates to quickly records standardized data during their consultation with the patient.

System Configuration

(Including User manager, Locations manager, Security profiles and Confidentiality Policies)  For management to update and maintain staff access to the EMIS system
